The Firsts

Occasionally I work Sundays in the Deli, each Sunday, there is a Lady who comes in and does her shopping. Now, when I say Lady, I mean a LADY. This woman is the epitome of class. Well over 6 feet tall, but I’ve yet to see her without high heels, not just any high heels, but ones that match her outfit. Hair, makeup and clothes are impeccable. Jewelry matches, belt, the works. And extremely lovely. Not only to look at, but to speak to as well. As beautiful as she is, she is humble, sweet and very friendly. This Lady, has inspired me...... inspired me to do better. Inspired me to maybe, take a little more time in the mornings. Now, don’t get me wrong here. I’m not a troll by no means. I can probably hold my own with the ladies my age, and maybe, just maybe on a good day, with some younger than me. But lets face it..... on any other given day, homeless comes to mind. Take this one day for example, it was late afternoon, and I only then realized that my shirt had been wrong side out all day, and, my zipper was down ( thank God, I wear an apron). Mornings are not my strong suit. I make no excuses for my behaviour in the morning. I hate them. So, the thought of getting gussied up for the day, sometimes is just too much. I’ll admit, I wear the same outfits day after day. When I find something comfortable, I buy in bulk!! I think its genius. And, I’ll even admit to, hitting the snooze button for an hour, leaving very little time for putting much thought into an outfit other than smelling it to determine if it’s clean ( don’t judge, I live alone, raised decent humans, and did my time as Martha)
  This Lady, has inspired me to maybe take a little more time with my makeup, now when I say, take more time with my makeup, I really mean, make sure BOTH my eyebrows are on, I have attention deficit and yes, on more than one occasion left the house with just one eyebrow, and that my eyeliner is discreet and not raccoonish ( it really is a look that went out in the mid 80’s, yet sadly, I still see it). Now, makeup is tricky.... we all try and get that “ no makeup look”. I tried one time, it took 45 minutes and more makeup than what I normally would apply in the run of a week, and gave me hives.   I also tried some of that makeup setting spray. That was fabulous, it’s suppose to give you a dewy look, whatever that is, and it smells like roses. So, 45 minutes later, I had the no makeup look, with dewy looking skin that as far as I could tell, only highlighted the hives.
 I’m pretty sure this Lady, has never in her life worn camo, or orange. Camo in my opinion, belongs in the woods. Ladies, camo is not a fashion. Camo has a job. One job, that’s it. It’s hunting attire, and not attractive attire at that, not even if its in pink. Orange..... is a color they use in prison. I’m just gonna leave that there.
   She’s inspired me too maybe take better care of myself. You know, maybe better habits. I dabble at going to the gym, determined each week to do better. But I dabble better with peppermint patties and M&Ms. Love them, and I feel, they really return the love. I love coffee, not just black coffee, but loaded with milk and sugar, and lots of it. Extra large sizes, and of course, the cigarettes, yes, at some point they need to go. Maybe when I retire, and not have to go out into the public quite so much.
   I don’t want to sound superficial, because not only is this Lady beautiful, but confident. She walks tall, shoulders back, head up. The whole, total package. She’s inspired me to just do better all around. So..... another Monday is rolling around, that’s when all good things start, and sadly usually die. Mondays..... all good intentions start there. And besides, I’m down to my last party sized bag of peppermint patties.... here’s to Monday, and new beginnings!
